January 6 marked the anniversary of our first product’s official release on Steam!
SHATTER was released on Steam on January 6, 2023, and was the culmination of 3 years of development by the team at uNIC Studios. Beginning development in the summer of 2019, Game Director Corey Bryant wanted to create a JRPG experience that would remind people of classic Final Fantasy, while also bringing together a story with modern day complexity.
The game’s Composer Casey Stroud was primarily focused on serving the story, adding a range of emotional depth to the characters, while adding an atmosphere around the various scenes and environments presented throughout the game, all coming together to form something with vastly different sounds while maintaining a cohesive body of tracks that was integral to what SHATTER would become.
Quality Assurance was handled by a great team consisting of Todd McCaffery, Brad Mills, and Robbie DeCourcey, who really helped shape the completed build of the project into a real presentable product.
There were many others who helped uNIC Studios along the way, not least was Sydney Earl-Worsley (@Squidinkscribbles), who created all of our wonderful promotional art, bringing the main cast of SHATTER to life in a way we never thought possible.
Finally, SHATTER would never have been possible if it were not for the accessibility and ease-of-use of our game engine RPG Maker MV, as well as the numerous free-to-use assets and engine plugins provided to us by the great community that RPG Maker has built over the decades.
Our first game was an eye opening experience that taught us many lessons, put us through many trials, and in the end, brought our team closer together. While it may not be much in the eyes of many, SHATTER will forever be a product that defines who we are and what we wish to accomplish at uNIC Studios.
